Low: Don't take by-election result as sign of future trend
"Wah? My party win big ah? Aiyo, don't praise us so much lah, paiseh, paiseh!"
Mr Low said this was why he had taken pains to stress to voters the role the WP is able to play at this stage in its development. The party is "not ready" to form an alternative government and come up with a full set of alternative policies yet, he said.
What the WP can and will do is to point out problems in existing policies and offer policy suggestions, said Mr Low. He believes Singapore has a "competent government" but it can do better and "tilt" policy directions, such as in alleviating cost of living pressures on Singaporeans.
Civil service runs the show, not parliamentarians -
Perhaps Low Thia Khiang needs to be reminded that our civil service is the one that runs the everyday dealings. Our infrastructure is already there. Be it our education system, healthcare, transport, housing and even foreign relations. It is not as if that if WP were to take over Parliament, the civil servants will resign en masse. So what's with this ill confidence on Low's part?
50 years ago or so, when we took over the reigns from the Brit govt, then later separated from Malaysia, Lee Kuan Yew happily (although pretended to weep with croc tears) took over without hesitation. Lee of course then proceeded to make a bloated claim that he was the one who brought up Singapore from zero to hero. What a dishonest claim to say the least.
The reason why Singapore could make it was because our infrastructure was already there. The Brits left us with all the foundation, well run, together with the civil servants, for whoever was going to take over. Did you see Lee Kuan Yew say he wanted to just assist the Brits? Or for that matter just assist the Malaysia Fed govt during the merger years? Lee knew that the civil service runs the show. All he needs to do is to just take credit.
Low Thia Khiang, either you shape up or ship out -
Low should take note. He has been in parliament for more than 20 years. That's the longest opposition member to be in parliament in the history of Singapore. If he intends to be just that, then that is no progress. That is no a leader. It is not even a follower. It is the mind of a "staller". Yes, as in someone who stalls progress.
Low, the people gave you and your party a strong mandate and result because they want to see you and your party give Singaporeans an alternative life. One that is not dictated by elites who are out of touch. Not one who thinks just because he lives in HDB flat or had a tough childhood life, but made it good now, represents the ground, like Dr Koh. Koh may have had it tough then, but when he made it good, he forgets what the current heartlanders are going through now.
Low, by giving a public impression that you are only willing to "assist" the PAP, you are saying that you are not confident to lead a team. You are also implicitly saying that you are helping the PAP with all their elitist programmes, including assisting them to scout for more elites to dictate the lives of the ordinary non-elite Singaporeans.
So, like what JBJ once said, what's the difference between Low Thia Khiang and the PAP?
Low Thia Khiang, move aside if you feel you are not up to the task -
I don't believe that the WP is short of leaders. For that matter, potential ministers too. Now is the time to show that PAP is not the only party that could lead Singapore.
Low, if you feel you are not up to the task to lead, my advice is for you to step aside and allow someone else to have the WP Sec Gen position to lead. Someone who is more confident than you. Step aside and get perhaps Sylvia Lim to fill your shoes, which are now too big for you. And if she feels ill-confident as well (judging the way she implicitly endorses Low's low confidence), she can step aside too. There's Chen Show Mao, Pritam Singh, or even the fast and upcoming Gerald Giam.
Low, you truly want to "assist" PAP to continue their ways? Really? See how you look like below, compared to Dragon Lee.
What Lee Kuan Yew looked like after his party won the elections with a strong mandate last century....
What Low Thia Khiang looks like after his party thrashes PAP with a thumping victory...
Wake up, Low! Or the people will wake you up the way they did to Dr Koh and the PAP.
